I’m interested in the exchange of knowledge, concepts and ideas between cultures. I focus on medieval Eurasian cultures; mainly China, Central Asia, the Islamic world and Iran. I view individuals and social formations as agents of cultural exchange, and try to follow and analyze the exchange process in its different manifestations and outcomes. My current research project concerns the migration of astronomers, physicians and alchemists across Mongol Eurasia. I’m analyzing contemporary sources in order to reconstruct the scholarly and social networks of the scientists, and their role in the transmission of scientific knowledge.
