She is currently working on her first monograph Limits of Belonging: The Concept of Foreign Land in Yuan China, which deals with the diplomatic and military engagement of the Mongols in Southeast Asia. The book explores the implications of the "Mongol factor" for the formation of modern political identities, the diffusion of geographical and ethnographical knowledge in 13th-14th century East Asia, and the expansion of the maritime Silk Road during the Yuan period.
